Wife and I stay at the harborside downtown on the waterfront; it's a block from The Black Rose which is the official Clemson bar in Boston. Get a warm welcome every time walk in with Clemson gear on. Bartender last time went to Fsu strangely enough, but still was quite welcoming and made for good convo. Subway stop is across the street to hop on to go to BC. And for down town you're in the middle of everything.

Lot of options....

but I would suggest something near Copley Square which in the Back Bay section of Boston. It's centrally located near plenty of shops, restaurants, and train stations (The T).

If you're into American history, be sure to walk the Freedom Trail where you will see Boston Common, the State House, Old South Meeting House (organizing point for the Boston Tea Party), the site of the Boston Massacre, Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church, the USS Constitution, and Bunker Hill (among other things). It's a about a 2.5 mile walk that is well worth the time IMO.

You'll also want to check-out Fenway Park and possibly take a tour.

As for dining recommendations, I would suggest the Barking Crab (casual atmosphere with great seafood) or Santarpio's Pizza. It's an absolute hole in the wall but the barbeque (as they call it) is awesome. It's really grilled lamb, steak or sausage.

Just my opinion, If it's your first time, stay in the financial district or waterfront all the history is there and north end adjacent;why have to jump on the subway to get where you want to spend your time. The only thing near back bay is common and china town. But yes agreed Fenway is a must, and walking around Harvard and MIT is worth it as well, go to mikes and get a connoli, prezza is my personal fav in the north end for high end. There is a pizza stand across from Paul revere statue that is awesome. The butcher shoppe is also a must do forget the t stop but it's where we go on the way to campus.

Regardless of what you do or where you stay you will enjoy every minute of Boston. Be SURE that you have good walking shoes!!!

Hopefully the Sox will be playing in early October. Haven't checked the schedule but that will be post season

I now stay in Cambridge but Copley $quare would be good for a fist time visitor.

Subway is excellent. Youthful city

Back Bay Hilton is a nice place to stay.

Hit Finway Park

The old fire stations down town are really neat to visit. The firefighters on shift are always really receptive to visitors.
