Boston College - trip in review

Oct 20, 2014, 3:08 PM

My trip to BC was awesome. Though it was my 2nd trip to the BC game, it was the first time I stayed in Boston. Let me tell you, I LOVED IT! We stayed in Beacon Hill and walked or took the T everywhere. I could really get used to that!

Such a beautiful place!

Friday afternoon we walked through the Boston Common to The Old North Church and took a tour of the Bell Ringing Chamber (which is not even half-way up to where the lantern lighter would have had to travel back in the day!) and the Crypt. There are 1100 souls buried under that church. It was a tad creepy, but I loved every minute of the tour!

Behind the church was a display they have made with blank dog tags, representing every soldier lost in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was a beautiful display – and as the wind blew, it sounded like wind chimes with all the dog tags rustling in the wind.

Friday night we attended the New England Clemson Club's event at Top of the Hub restaurant in Prudential Tower. It was PHENOMENAL. For $25 you got some free Clemson goodies (as usual!), appetizers, dinner, and adult beverages. There were over 600 Clemson people there!

The view from “Top of the Hub” - the glowing thing in the middle is Fenway Pahk.

Saturday we went to tour Fenway Pahk. We got there at 9:50am and the 10am tour was sold out - actually, we watched 2 Tigers right in front of us buy the last 2 tickets! We decided that "tailgating" was more important to us than waiting to tour at 11am. And, as a non-baseball, non-Red Sox fan, walking around the outside was atually all I needed. If you've ever see "Fever Pitch" you may, like me, feel the exact same way Jimmy Falon does in that movie on "Tickets in the Mail day" when your Clemson football season tickets arrive :D In any case, being at Fenway made me feel much closer to Jimmy Falon ;)

We headed over to Citiside bar near BC and "tailgated" for a few hours. We had the best waitress (Danielle) who even wore orange earrings and a Clemson tiger paw sticker! She knew where her tips were coming from! We left a little early so we could walk around some of BC's campus - it was absolutely breathtaking. The architecture is to die for. Beautiful buildings and beautiful landscape. Some BC fans we passed even told us they put up the orange plastic construction fence just for us! ;) The BC tailgating...well, you can see by the photos that it was very, very minimal.

Pregame: the BC band welcomed us by playing Tiger Rag to our side of the stadium. I have to say that was, by far, one of the coolest moments I've experienced at an away game!

The game, well we know how that went. I would like to take a minute to say that overall I was quite disappointed in the Clemson contingent. We probably had 8000 or more there, and in a small stadium like that, that filled up late, we could have easily disrupted their offense more than we did if our fans had been yelling like it was last week vs. Louisville in Death Valley. We had plenty of people there to do it. But for most of the time it seemed my friend and I (and a group of 4-6 guys a few rows down) were the only ones yelling. I think maybe I should start bringing ear plugs for people who sit around me. Because I am yelling on every defensive down, all day, every day. I will say, maybe it was the rain, I don't know. But FINALLY in the 4th quarter people started getting up and being a little more vocal. I barely have a voice still today; and I hope it's rested by this weekend when The Orange come to town.

After the game we headed over to The North End to eat some Italian for dinner. That place is INSANE. Lines out of every door at 8pm still waiting to get inside. We hit the jackpot and found a place that had a table and didn't have to wait but a few minutes. GOOD EATS.

(took a picture so we’d remember where to eat next trip!)

Sunday we took a narrated tour along The Freedom Trail. We had a "redcoat" as our tour guide, and he took us from Boston Common to Fanuiel Hall.

Afterwards we went to "The Barking Crab" to eat lunch, which we had heard was good. IT WAS!!
Then, we hit up some gift shops and watched some football in the tavern before heading out to the airport. As we were crossing the street near some construction, a cop was directing traffic - he said "A little fah from Death Valley, ahn't we?" :D

I'm exhausted but loved every minute. I wear an "UP" which tracks steps - for the 3 days, I walked over 58,000 steps - the equivalent of just over 28 miles. (just so you know, 10,000 steps - or 5 miles - is the "minimum" one is to aim for every day).

I look forward to my next trip up there. It was WICKED AWESOME! ;)
