I will be making my first trip to Maryland. Just me and my 6th grader.
Any advise on game day activities? Should we take the Metro? Or park and drive? Is there a restaurant we should eat at?

Try not to walk through the students section. I did with my 5 year old last time and was hurled obscenities at.

I would avoid getting around student sections with a child. A portion of the student fanbase there simply has zero class.....too much of a pro-mentality. The ACC def. upgraded switching them out for Louisville. Not to rain on your party--but probably the worse away-game trip to make (NCSU isn't far behind)
You should be fine...just stay around other adults/Clemson fans and you'll be fine.

where you will find another thread about traveling to Maryland.
That said, Maryland is probably not the trip I would choose to take my twelve year old son.
Maryland fans, especially their students, have a history of being rather abrasive and that is putting it mildly.

but essentially harmless especially when the team is losing. All of their bandwagon NFL fans from DC and Baltimore who like to fight wil ljump ship and be long gone after a couple of losses.

There are places you can pay and park on campus. I've done that before and had no problems. I walked to the stadium from the Metro one time, and my wife and I had some pretty unkind words hurled our way by Terp fans passing by in cars.

We made our first and LAST trip to Maryland a few years ago.
Never heard such obscenities BEFORE even walking into the stadium by students and adults.
Maryland won and was on their way to an ACC championship with just Duke left on their schedule. Gray haired adults insulted us on the way out of the stadium as we congratulated them on their win and probably winning the ACC championship as well. Never seen such low class people who don't know how to win.
Had beer bottles thrown at us leaving the parking lot going into the game.
Protect yourself and especially your son. Be sure to tell him that the behavior of Maryland fans is not how Tiger fans behave.
We parked in a lot right below the stadium. Had no trouble getting there.

I have lived in the DC metro area for 27 years, so I can vouch for what has been said about factions of classless Maryland fans. Too many fans take things too far over a game, and some of the actions of Maryland sports fans over the years have been both irresponsible and criminal.
As a man perfectly capable of defending myself, I personally will not go to a game at Maryland. There are a number of hostile Maryland fans that do not like Clemson, and I would not want to have to smack the you know what out of one of them in retaliation for some act of aggression on their part.
If you proceed with your trip, just use your street smarts, whether you take Metro or drive. The campus is not far for DC and some not so great neighborhoods in Maryland. Metro is generally safe, but be aware of your surroundings as you would in any metropolitan area. Personally, the University of Virginia is a much better football experience as a visiting Clemson fan. I have been going there for years when Clemson comes to town, and I will be there on November 2nd.
