How do you not walk the ONLY guy who can possibly beat you on a 3-2 count with two outs and the game securely in your pocket?
Ae they just htat arrogant, stupid or was it just a bad mistake by the pitcher?
Either way ... I like it!!!!
Go Tigers!! Beat SCAR anytime, anywhere!!

Had to be the first two things that led to the third thing.

Oh well ... did Beer park that "mistake" deep in their arrogant, stupid right field bleachers or what??

plus i think he's still mad about the McIlwain K at Clemson last year and wanted payback.

It was a mistake on the placement of the pitch

But you don't put the tying runner on and bring the winning run to the plate. Even if a hitter is batting .300 which is really good, he's failing 70% of the time. Beer is hitting .250. The odds of hitting a homerun are even lower. He just came up clutch. The call to throw to him was the right call. Imagine you walk him and then he ends up scoring, everyone is going to ask why would you put the tying run on.

Wrong...check his OBP...

Odds of SB getting on base way higher. It's not BA. The smart play is the intentional pass...baseball folks often spew such baseless bromides

His OBP is a bit over-inflated....

due to all of the intentional walks he gets.

If we had anything else going @ the plate all day, I'd agree

But, our bats were dead and Beer was the only guy who could hurt them.
We'd stranded base runners all afternoon.
Maybe you don't walk him intentionally, but you don't groove a perfect pitch for him to pull either.

Odds were in your favor that you get beer out and win the game. Worst case scenario was a tie game , worst case scenario happened

Pitcher down 3-0, I don't think you throw the first strike, much less the third one. They pitched around him all day, why change it when he can hurt you the most.

it's a combination of arrogance and stupidity; two of the few things at which they seem to excel.
