Our National Anthem

So with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event: save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts. Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten - straight up, no styling.
Sing it with the constant awareness that there are Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world. Don't make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification. Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 86-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love - not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. They could see that from your costume, makeup and your entourage. Sing 'The Star Spangled Banner' with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America, not you.

I'm guessing that you might have watched an NFL preseason game based on the continued disrespect for our National Anthem. If so, well, Bless your heart.

I don't want to since I love football, but my loyalty remains with my country and the soldiers that fought for our freedom, so the boycott will continue for me. My dad fought on Omaha Beach on D-Day, so I have the utmost respect for everything AMERICAN.

My grandfather fought in Italy, he was an officer in the battle of Anzio. Although he never would talk about it, in the days leading up to his death from Cancer I sat down w him and he detailed his military career to me. He had to wake up in mud trenches and then use a burlap sack to pick up the body parts from his men who had died from the artillery barrage during the night.

Its interesting that you choose to use the word freedom in your post yet want to dictate how others want to exercise their freedom.

Any time someone, anyone don't like any of the freedom's they have in this great country that we call the United States of America, get the #### out and stay the fck out bc, not one drop of blood should ever be lost just so they can talk about the freedom that they may not have bc we do have laws that help govern this country for the safety of the citizens so that we can retain peace and fairness for all that do pledge allegiance to our great nation. There isn't a better country any where in the world, and if it wasn't, millions wouldn't be illegally trying to enter this country. There is a legal way to get welcomed into this country, and the ones that choose not to come in legally, they should be thrown out the very minute they are caught regardless if they have family here that came here the legal and right way. The ones trying to sneak in, most were criminals in there country and we don't want them here in the USA. God bless America!!!

Less than 1% of NFL players protest to raise awarensss of police brutality towards minoroties and you just whine and complain that they are disrespecting the country, flag, and every soldier.
You are the type of person that would have gotten mad at Rosa Parks and MLK for sitting in the wrong bus seats. You would have gotten mad at the protests in Birmingham where people protested in “white only” restaurants, only to be hosed down by police officers and attacked by their dogs. I can only imagine the anger you would have felt when MLK, and thousands of others, marched in the streets of Selma, Alabama preventing vehicles from driving down the road.
We have a long history of protesting in this country. It is one of the most patriotic things you can do. Continue to ignore the actual reasons why a few NFL players are kneeling all you want. I know plenty of service men and women that agree with what those players are doing because they understand what the protests are about.

He disagrees with you so he's a racist, huh! Tells a lot more about you than it does him . If I protest something I don't do it by dishonoring those who have bravely served our country ..... and you think it is patriotic. Not me.

Sgt_Bilko --- I thoroughly agree with your comments with one exception. I doubt you will find any WW2 veterans who are now 86. The war ended in the summer of 1945. An 86 year old person would have been born in 1932 and only 13 years of age when the war ended. I doubt even a 13 year old could have fooled a recruiter re his age. The youngest surviving WW2 veteran would be about 90 or 91 with the majority of us several years older.
In Sept., 2017, it was estimated that about 558,000 WW2 veterans were still alive, but the numbers are dwindling rapidly as it is estimated over 300 die each day.

Joe, Yes they are. It's sad to think how many more years the greatest generation will be around. Although not part of the greatest generation I get sad when I think about their sacrifices to this great country. My uncles fault and died in WWII and being a second generation Submariner it gives me great pleasure to know the contributions that my fellow submariners gave to this country. little know fact is although the U.S. Submarine forces accounted for less that 2% of the armed forces they accounted for over 30% of the Japanese Navy's casualties and over 60% of the Japanese merchant marine casualties.

Here is an idea. Every football game high school and up have cops at them for security. High School games, College Games, and NFL games. So in the future, so as to not cause confusion, why don't these nfl players go find one of these Police Officers at the game, and kneel before him. (But not during the anthem) That way we know for sure why they are protesting and what they are protesting. And as an added bonus, they won't be insulting our country or it's veterans in the process.

If you want to kneel and #### off most of your employer's customers that's wrong. If you want to do it on your on time then that's your choice. Everyone of us can not do whatever we want to do at work without consequences. The NFL needs to make this clear.
