I have a Clemson football confession to make . . .

I really hate to say this, because I know the thing to do is to be all positive and giddy about the start of football season . . . the spring game . . . Hill Watch, and all the various exciting aspects of a new season. And, in one sense I still am. After all, come what may, it will still be a new season of Clemson football.
But . . . I must admit that it's a little tempered this year - because it starts with Jawja. It's one thing to have a tough game to start the year that you could lose . . . but uga has been so dang solid in recent years, and we have dipped a bit, and while I'm optimistic about our overall trajectory, it's hard to expect we'll be the mutts. And outside of the chickens, there are few if any teams that make me puke like the mangy dawgs. It would be a bummer to start 0-1 if it were FSU, NC State, or anyone . . . but to think about maybe starting 0-1 against them is just so repulsive.
I know I'm supposed to be more positive than that, but in the back of my mind I'm half considering App State the be the opener, after we get uga "over with."
Hope I'm wrong.

Can't be any worse than last year's opener.

It is going to be a tall task, no doubt. We will probably be a double digit underdog. UGA will have a chip on their shoulder after being left out of the playoffs last year. Lot of reasons to be nervous, but you never know in season openers.

I notice you're not a donor here. So perhaps you're giving to IPTAY. To that end and to alleviate your fears, sell all that you have and give it to IPTAY and maybe we can buy a coupld of portal players to improve our chances with uga.

Losing to Dook actually left a bad taste in my mouth that lasted the entire season. "IF" we lose to Jawja, it would at least be understandable....but losing to Dook?!? Inexcusable.

I would like to see the opening game played in Charlotte or another neutral site. Playing in Atlanta ,a short distance from Athens isn’t really a neutral site.

Our defense has got to be elite next season to beat UGA. I have no expectations for offense until I see improvement with my own two eyes. We’ve heard great things in the offseason for the last three seasons and we know how that turned out.
But if our Defense can hold UGA to about 17 points then we have a chance.

On the other hand..........what if Clemson has one of those perfect games and the Strays cannot catch a break and we beat the brakes off their entire kennel, coming out of the game ranked #1 in the country? If the Blue Imps can abuse us like they did last year, we might very well do the same to the Fleabags! Why not Clemson!!!???

for Clemson football. It was the season opener in 2021 which, to me, signaled the beginning of the REAL decline of Clemson football. The total lack of offense with DJ at QB would be like a pall on the program for the next two years. Finally, in the last drive of the bowl game last year, we saw some signs of life offensively when it counted. With the influx of new talent, and new coaches, I think we flip the s.cript, and beat the slobbering bullpuppies this time around, signalling the start of THEIR decline. Our offense will be MUCH improved, and the defense will keep us in the game, just as it did in 2021. This time, their efforts will not be wasted. Tigers win, 24-21.

I do think it'll be the D that drives our chances if that happens. Not to say the offense won't see some great improvement in '24, but it's hard to expect them to have it all together for game 1, especially against such an opponent.

You have it exactly backwards. I'm measured and specific, and very accurate, giving latitude for legitimate disagreement and all.
You on the other hand, are a self-proclaimed substance police, not knowing of what you speak, only knowing of your own ego. So, like I said, go pound sand, dolt.

if they predominantly play the freshmen WRs
Cade had no options to throw deep balls and 50/50 ball to last year

Cade had zero pocket presence and didn't trust the O-Line last year. Hopefully that's changed with a new look O-line. If you review some film there was plenty of separation in games, but he didn't run through his progressions often.

I'm sure our coaches and players are working hard to prepare and be ready.

Here's to our coaches having a good plan in place, and our players being healthy and executing that plan well.

I think they have the slight advantage. I think if we are healthy going in that we have a solid chance.. The early line is Georgia favored by 12.5 though.

Georgia doesn’t matter, I mean as far as making the playoffs. Of course it matters because we all want to beat the dogs. But win the conference and we’re in, no matter what happens in the opener. Besides, we will be a much better team in November than in August.

In 2017, FSU was expected to be a playoff team, they played Alabama in a defensive battle and was beat up pretty bad, at the end of the game our starting QB was injured and missed the remainder of the year, FSU limped to a 6-6 finish, 7-6 after the bowl win. Don't let it happen to y'all.
