One week of games

The national media is already claiming Louisville is the 2nd best team in the ACC. It seems that many (excluding myself) forget that we were down just 3 pts going into the 4th quarter. We all knew there would be some bumps in the road this year. You simply can't lose the talent we lost last year and not have a drop off. I do however believe that some tweaks along with some personnel changes on the offensive side of the ball will get us headed in the right direction. Let's just hope it happens sooner then later.

Knee jerk reactions...

Some of the talking heads also proclaim UGA to be the #1 team in the country based on one game as well. I'm not saying they don't deserve to be in the conversation. My point is we won't really know anything about the outlook of a team's season until we are 3-4 games in.
That's why I'm not gloom and dooming about the UGA loss. The offense gaining 15 yards in the second half doomed the defense, and they had nothing left in the tank by the middle of the 4th quarter. A loss isn't good, but I guess it's better to get one early so that we don't buy into ourselves too much.

on offense and continue to leave better players on the sideline, (Scott, Choice, Gallman to name a few) and we'll be having this conversation again in 2 weeks. If that happens again down in Tallahassee, we may just get ourselves embarrassed.
We're paying Morris entirely too much money to wet the bed like that. That's ridiculous, and I hope Dabo and Brent Venables chewed him for everything he was worth on the ride home. I hope Venables followed him home and kept chewing on him. If his defense could have had a series to rest in the second half, who knows what could have happened. Matter of fact, I hope BV is still yelling at him today.

The loss is definitely placed squarely on the lap of the offense. I can somewhat understand not having faith in the true freshman because they are not ready. However the freshman that have been on campus since January or the RS Freshman who have been coached for a YEAR should be ready to contribute. If they are not ready that is the coach's fault.
I know field position played a huge role in play-calling, but we had plenty of success throwing the ball down field early and just didn't attempt any in the 2nd half.
12 of Stoudt's completions were BEHIND the LOS.

I wasn't too disappointed with Morris until I heard

his comments about the offense in the second half. When he basically said they were intentionally being super conservative due to being inside the 20 over and over, that's hard to hear. The reason it's hard to hear is that it seemed UGA's secondary was ripe for the picking based on the first half.

That's why I wish we would give the keys to Watson. If that is all the faith you have in Stoudt, may as well let Watson learn on the fly.

make a change quickly. This coaching conservatively and scared crap ain't going to cut it.
Yes I said it, the entire second half Chad Morris was coaching scared. You can't play with the big boys coaching like that.
I don't care that we were inside the 20's. We've got the speed to stretch the field. Absolutely not reason for the awful, AWFUL playcalling we had to witness the entire 2nd half.

Spiller: His comment could have been: we were coaching not to lose and that's exactly what he did. See the L'ville game last nite? They don't coach to prevent a loss they coach to win. big difference and until our OC learns that we are not in a good place. Let's not forget that Cole has had 5 years of prep and Watson was the top or one of the top QB recruits. When we couldn't move the ball with the plays called after 1 or 2 possessions in the second half, Morris needed to change the attack and he did not.

Spiller: I agree with your comment re loss better to have early. My frustration and that of many others is that we coached not to lose instead of to win and this has happened several times before. Last nite L'Ville coached to win, opened it up under a n aggressive pass rush and won.If Chad can't see that, I'm concerned that we can go to the level that we all want--NC! Please remember, He has only 4 years or so of coaching at the top level and the question is whether he is learning from his misscues. I believe school is still out on that question.
