A couple of years after Coach Ford had won the NC

he was speaking at an IPTAY banquet in Greenville. The person introducing him said, "Coach, even though you haven't won a national championship in the last few years, we're still behind you." Danny's reaction was priceless. When he took the podium he said, "Apparently you don't know how hard this job is."

Exactly! Now that college football is pay for play football with free agency (the transfer portal) recruiting, developing and coaching players is much less difficult. Winning is the transfer portal solution now. Like Deon said, he just needs to get new players like the NFL does! Is'nt it so simple, except other teams are buying up players too! So let's buy all the players new trucks like Utah!

Ironically, we ended up on probation soon thereafter.***

I recall that Danny got a bit too big for HIS britches - and Clemson had to end their relationship with him.

Yep. One of the dumbest moves by an administration in sports history. Followed closely by the hire of Hatfield who quickly pissed away all our momentum and brand.

Never said 1.5% of the fan base was the problem. Never bashed the fan base for not appreciating him.

When would fans have had a chance to cause a response like Dabo had. There was no internet or social media. There were no sports radio stations. You surely wouldn’t have said it to his face unless you wanted to literally get your butt kicked.

I also remember Coach Ford being introduced at our local Iptay club. He had just won the national title and the MC that introduced him was praising Coach Ford. As Coach Ford began speaking he asked the MC and audience if they would love him this much if his team went 4 and 7 next season. The MC quickly answered “Coach Ford we will love you and we will miss you too”. Some fans never change!
