in the 70s? I want to say it was around $2000 a year. Tuition, room & board... includes dorm room, meal card for 3 meals a day/7 days a week, etc. Lock, stock and barrel. Does that sound about right?

I asked my first roommate freshman year (1975, best friend since 1st grade) and he thought $1500/year. I asked my second roommate, who I lived with the remaining 3 years, and all he could remember was that his dad said "I'm glad you're through, it's like a $5000/year raise". Which could mean a lot things... not just tuition, room, board, books, lab fees, etc... but the check they mailed you every month for "other expenses". Beer, pot, Nick's, Chanelo's, Study Hall, toiletries, haircuts, dinner & movie for a date, concerts, tennis shoes, whatever.

That's only $660 a year. Gotta say, that sounds a bit low. Although, without dorm room and meals...maybe? I don't know, that's why I'm asking. Hell, we thought anyone living "off campus" had more money than we did, otherwise why would anyone actually choose to live in a dorm. LOL. An apartment definitely cost more, plus the cost difference in food, needing to have a car, etc.

buy vs rent, and the going rate was 18%. I chit you not. That triples a mortgage payment, versus todays 4%. Nope, guess I'll just rent a while longer. LOL. Thanks Jimmuh. Gimme some peanuts.

My memory of freshman year '71 was $750 for tuition/semester. Probably include other student fees and infirmary. Room and board was about another 550?

has exact amounts like he's reading it off a receipt. Looks like my memory was good, I said $2K. ==================
Fall of my soph. year at Clemson- 1977
tuition in state: $ 75 matriculation fee: $ 5 university fee: $290 Medical fee: $ 45 Johnstone: $265 7 day Meal plan: $320
Total: $1000
So, about $2000 annually.
