2018 Clemson. Our offense didn't change too much but our DL and DBs would have given Burrow fits.
Of course we get 3rd and Renfrow back too - the man feasts in Natty games.

If I recall correctly LSU’s defense was not great against the run either. For all the attention that LSU 2019 gets Clemson 2018 was easily better.

ETN was beginning to get into a groove early in 3rd quarter...then suddenly coaches decide we have to air it out for rest of game and take ETN out of the equation....
I do not coach but never understood the thought process to take the ball out of ETN hands. Game could have easily turned out differently but it didn't.
I say they were both great but I take 2018 Clemson all day

No DB in college history would’ve contained the trio of Burrow, Chase, and Jefferson. Just look at the 3 of them in the NFL now, none of our corners or safeties that we’ve ever had is at that level.
Other than Brian Dawkins.
Hate it, but it’s truth.

I find it strange that all this time we have had some awesome defenses...but always a game here and there that makes absolutely 0 sense, and I mean NONE/NADA/ZILCH.
That coot throws for over 500 yards, looks like Dan Marino out there dropping dimes but an average QB at best every other game. Fields plays game of his career, puts up 6 TD's and hits receivers in perfect step all game. Very good player but did not perform to that level until playoff semi-final. Burrow pretty much lit everyone up but AJ Terell was a blanket on Chase and Jefferson was covered like glue but yet Burrow found the only window to them...frustrating WF Sam Hartman has incredible game and had they not decided to run the ball down the stretch, I seriously doubt Clemson wins that game, but who knows.
It is hard to believe and watch at times, but that is why they play the games.

But that was college and DBs wouldn't have to contain Jefferson and Chase every play if Burrow is on his a$$ or running for his life. Ask Tua how that felt.

2019 LSU in a close one. I would take 2019 Joe Burrow over 2018 Trevor Lawrence and the LSU team had more talent. The draft showed that.

LSU defeated a Clemson defense that had Venables playing heavy time at LB. Clemson didn't even have Jeff Scott

He didn't really have to deal with much in terms of a rush the year he beat us. He kinda had to time to pick us apart and we had to rush our Linebackers about every play to have any pressure at all which vacated alot of throwing lanes for a more than capable QB. Tua probably would've done the exact same thing had it not been for that Power Ranger crew making him think too quick. Those boys were reason 1A as to how we have those two trophies. We like to say it was all just Trevor or Deshaun but that defensive line was key to taming those opposing championship offenses.
With that i'd say its a toss up. Tee played but wasn't 100% and Ross was out. If everyone is healthy I think we win it by 10 pts b/c of our defense. But without everyone its close. I say Go Tigers not Geaux Tigers for the win in a tight one.

prior to the game the tide was almost universally considered "the best college football team of all time",and even after the game excuses were being made for their miserable performance.our guys never really got full credit for their incredible performance.simply more evidence of media ignorance and bias on display.

No our 2016 National Championship Team beat the UndESP(N)uted BEST TEAM EVER!!
I thought it was the 2015 & then 2016 Bama teams that were hyped as the Best Teams ever. I guess in 2018 they were again deemed the Best Ever!

Power Rangers x Clemson's seasoned OL (and probably best OL since) = Back-to-Back Champs.
That LSU Offense was historically good and definitely could contend for best ever. However, that 2018 Clemson squad had the best of both sides -- elite defense, good OL, Hunter Renfrow as a safety valve that we definitely missed in 2019. Unfortunately, all anyone seems to remember is 2019 LSU now because of their offense.
Honestly, I feel like CFB folks REALLY underestimate that 2018 Clemson team. That team was all-time historically good and I'd feel confident it could hang with any other all-time teams in CFB history.

Would give us the edge in a close game. The team that came closest to beating 2019 LSU was Auburn, which had the best DL in college football that year. The only way anyone was going to slow down LSUs offense at all was getting pressure/exploiting gaps with the front 4 or 3, while dropping 7 or 8. Our 2018 DL could've done that better than anyone.

I was at that Auburn game in Baton Rouge. Derrick Brown was unstoppable that day. Burrow made just enough plays to squeak out a 23-20 victory.

Clemson without a doubt. The Tigers were home grown, while the lsu bunch was bought off the transfer wire.

At least by the end of the season. I don't think they were playing at that level for the entire season, but by the end of the year their defense was healthy and very underrated and their offense was arguably the best in CFB history (certainly right in the discussion).

Considering the 2018 Tigers beat the best college team ever by a score of 44 - 16, I have to go with the 2018 Tigers winning 34 - 17 over 2019 LSU.
The 2018 defense would have shutdown Burrow and the LSU offense and created a few more opportunities for the offense.

I asked Chat GPT. Both the 2018 Clemson Tigers and the 2019 LSU Tigers were exceptional college football teams that achieved great success in their respective seasons. Comparing them to determine which team was better is subjective and depends on various factors.
In the 2018 season, the Clemson Tigers finished with a perfect 15-0 record and won the national championship. Led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence and a dominant defense, Clemson defeated several strong opponents, including Alabama in the national championship game. They showcased a balanced and formidable team that excelled on both sides of the ball.
The 2019 LSU Tigers, on the other hand, had a historic season. They finished with a 15-0 record and won the national championship as well. Led by quarterback Joe Burrow, who had an exceptional season, LSU boasted a high-powered offense that shattered numerous records. They defeated several highly ranked teams, including Clemson in the national championship game, with their explosive offense and an improved defense.
When comparing these two teams, it's important to consider the context of their seasons. The 2018 Clemson Tigers had a dominant defense that stifled opponents consistently, while the 2019 LSU Tigers had an explosive offense that set records and put up staggering numbers.
Ultimately, determining which team was better is subjective and depends on personal preferences. Some may prefer Clemson's balanced team and suffocating defense, while others may favor LSU's record-breaking offense. Both teams were outstanding in their own right and will be remembered as two of the best teams in recent college football history.
