He couldn't dominate in the current NIL world so he quit. Now he's making excuses for his inability to adapt.

The man is 72 years old. It isn’t like he quit at 45. If anybody has earned the right to disagree with the direction of college football I’d put him at the top of the list. And what more could he have accomplished? Absolutely nothing.

The greatest coach in the history of college football, who is 72 years old, who had his team in the playoffs, barely losing to the eventual national champs decides to retire for totally understandable reasons... and you, message board guy, have the audacity to dismiss it that way? Cmon man.

He was used to dominating with under the table payments and using them to stockpile 5 stars. That gave Bama more depth than most teams and kept many of those players from playing for the competition.
He was great - great at using the bogus system that was in place then.
Again, NIL went a long way to get that old system gone. Good riddance.
Age doesn't matter. The inability to adapt does. Lots of great coaches had that problem. Urban Meyer, Spurrier, Lou Holtz, even Mack Brown.

And they won the natty the year before that.
What the **** are you talking about? He finished elite. Nobody has a superior last 4 years than that. He just hated how the culture caters now more to NFL fans and a more hollow student athlete experience. Maybe you don't appreciate the things college football has lost, but there is nothing wrong with those of us who see college football is now worse than the NFL in every respect. There is even less loyalty and stability in college than there is in the NFL.

2nd and 3rd were disappointments for him.
He knew that winning it all was going to get much more difficult with NIL, transfers starting to leave Bama, and the SEC getting tougher with Texas and Oklahoma joining.
Add that to his old payment system being nullified by NIL and it's no wonder he's whining about it.
And...the Bama love in a Clemson forum is disgusting

Complaining about what college football has lost...

...is like the best horse drawn buggy maker complaining about Henry Ford's newfangled Model T taking stability away from his industry in 1908.
The new state of affairs has created more interest that any off-season in decades. It is also well on the way to ending decades of exploiting college athletes for entertainment, while the schools, conferences, and the NCAA made millions of dollars from their labor. It's past time that the athletes got fair market value for their labor and the risks to their futures.

What a great article! It’s definitely unexpected that Saban would say some of these things but he is saying much of the same that others are thinking but are hesitant to say out loud. He and Dabo are on the same page. Now it’s time to change the craziness before we can’t do anything about it

Only way it changes is for the NFLPA to demand change on the next CBA and that is extremely doubtful.
This is one thing the league and the union agreed on.

least a major factor in running off the best coach to ever do it. It will be beyond interesting to see what actually transpires at Alabama following these revelations. The players can't be happy about being called out in such a manner, even though I have ZERO problem believing it happened exactly as Coach said it did.
